Building
Leading backend infrastructure work at ThriveCart — improving the reliability and observability of core systems. Building joshuapaul.me as a living professional home. Continuing development on Agent Spire and InvestorSmith, both of which are getting closer to the point where they handle real workflows, not just demos.
Learning
Working through business fundamentals on Coursera — Financial Accounting (Wharton) and Business Strategy (UVA Darden). The goal isn't credentials; it's building a mental model rigorous enough to think alongside investors and operators, not just engineers. Also preparing for a Master's in Artificial Intelligence, and recently started learning French.
Thinking about
What it looks like for a backend engineer to move credibly into the business side of technology — not just as a "technical co-founder type" but as someone who can hold both lenses simultaneously. The difference between AI systems that work in demos and ones that hold up in production, and why that gap is wider than most people admit. How engineers and investors can communicate better, and what gets lost in translation when they don't.
